The Member of Technical Staff in Microsoft Robotics will focus on designing, developing, and testing physical world models that enable robots to understand and interact with 3D environments. This role is part of the Discovery and Quantum division, which aims to advance AI and robotics technologies. The engineer will work on spatial AI capabilities and collaborate with various teams to integrate models into robotic systems. The position emphasizes building models that enhance robot perception, navigation, and planning.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 2+ years of data-science experience.
- Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field.
- Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) data-science experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and evaluate physical world models that capture 3D spatial structure and object relationships.
- Build and train world models that predict future states of physical environments based on robot actions.
- Develop spatial AI capabilities for robot perception and planning.
- Implement and maintain evaluation frameworks for world models and spatial AI systems.
- Collaborate with robotics researchers and engineers to integrate world models into planning and control pipelines.
- Build data pipelines for training world models using multi-sensor data fusion.
- Write efficient and readable code in Python for model development and evaluation.
- Contribute to the team's research and development roadmap.
- Present research findings and model evaluation results to stakeholders.
- Stay current with research in world models and spatial AI.
