Job description

The Staff Manufacturing Engineer – Drive Unit, Rotor at Rivian will focus on designing and implementing rotor manufacturing processes and equipment. This role involves leading the development of new manufacturing line infrastructure and guiding best practices for product design. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure project execution and compliance with standards. The position is based in Normal, IL, and includes responsibilities for planning a new facility in East Atlanta, GA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar technical field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience with magnet feeding and insertion, rotor balancing systems preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in high and low volume manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage rotor assembly line equipment engineering from initial concept through full-scale production.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Support project production line through design, FAT, and SAT.
  • Ensure equipment and process compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Mentor engineers and foster a supportive environment.
  • Develop equipment and process specifications and assess vendor capabilities.
  • Provide design for manufacturing feedback to the Product Engineering team.
  • Lead research and development activities for new manufacturing technologies.
  • Identify and drive corrective actions for process quality and performance issues.
