In this role, you will serve as the primary technical lead for evaluating the safety and maturity of Autonomous Vehicle partners on the Uber platform. You will conduct thorough technical safety due diligence to ensure compliance with Uber's safety standards. This position is part of Uber's Autonomous Mobility and Delivery Safety team and requires a blend of systems engineering expertise and strong communication skills. You will work closely with both external partners and internal teams to align safety expectations and improve assessment frameworks.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 7+ years of experience in systems engineering, focusing on complex hardware/software integrations.
- Proven track record in the Autonomous Vehicle industry, particularly in safety-critical systems.
- Experience with V&V methodologies and AV industry standards such as ISO 26262 and SOTIF/ISO 21448.
- Proven experience performing Safety Risk Assessments or similar technical due diligence.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience managing high-stakes external technical relationships.
Responsibilities
- Define and maintain the technical rubrics and safety benchmarks for evaluating AV stacks.
- Collaborate with external partner engineering teams and internal teams to ensure alignment with safety expectations.
- Conduct deep-dive technical reviews of partner systems and author comprehensive Safety Risk Assessments.
- Partner with policy and regional teams to translate regulatory requirements into engineering solutions.
- Continuously improve Uber's partner onboarding and assessment frameworks by identifying bottlenecks.
- Act as the face of Uber's safety engineering team in external communications and negotiations.
- Evaluate and integrate AI/ML-driven approaches to enhance safety validation and risk identification.
