Job description

The HV Underground Transmission Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting and leading projects related to underground and subsea cable technology. This position involves collaboration with regional and global experts to address the evolving demands of the energy industry, particularly in high voltage applications. The engineer will be responsible for technical support, design, and project management, ensuring effective communication with clients and stakeholders. This role offers a hybrid work environment, allowing flexibility between office and remote work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or related engineering discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 8 years of direct experience with underground and/or subsea cable design and installation.
  • Ability to work with cable design software such as CYMCAP.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards such as IEC, IEEE and CIGRE.
  • Experience working with major global cable OEMs.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within North America.

Responsibilities

  • Develop HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design and design review.
  • Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
  • Prepare specifications, power cable route specifications, and reports and progress reports.
  • Confirm correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects.
  • Attend and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Support factory inspections Test (FAT).
  • Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, electromechanical and thermomechanical forces and EMF calculations.
  • Perform design reviews and verification of design.
  • Confirm that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works.
  • Confirm that inspection and test plans are completed as required by the specifications.
