Job description
Tesla is seeking a Staff Manufacturing Engineer to focus on the launch production of Optimus humanoid robots. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize designs for manufacturability and ramp up production lines in Tesla factories, contributing to the development of innovative AI robotics.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Mindset to apply first principles for problem solving
- Proficiency in CAD tools (Catia and AutoCAD preferred)
- Proficiency in mechanical assembly (press fits, fastener selection, harness, etc.)
- Proficiency in electrical integration, quality matrix, testing and troubleshooting
- Familiar with torque tools, fixture design, automation equipment, control systems and communication protocol
- Experience in transitioning products from prototype to production
- Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
- Well-organized with meticulous attention to detail
Responsibilities
- Work closely with Design Engineering, NPI, Quality and Production to take design from initial concept through prototype development and into full production
- Develop manufacturing technology from concept to production, providing insights during product definition to streamline design for manufacturing
- Create process sequences, establish critical process parameters and recipes, and formulate assembly sequences to define critical quality parameters for efficient production
- Lead the in-house development of novel, complex, innovative, and intricate prototype manufacturing equipment for both low and high-volume lines
- Manage internal and external equipment suppliers to design, install and commission production lines, ensuring successful integration on time
- Work closely with the production team to ramp up the line, addressing any technical issues, and optimizing processes until the line runs at the desired rate
- Calculate equipment capacity and line balancing to ensure optimal production efficiency
- Document engineering testing reports and maintain records of equipment performance, process improvements, and troubleshooting outcomes
