Job description

Tesla is seeking a Staff Manufacturing Engineer to focus on the launch production of Optimus humanoid robots. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize designs for manufacturability and ramp up production lines in Tesla factories, contributing to the development of innovative AI robotics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Mindset to apply first principles for problem solving
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (Catia and AutoCAD preferred)
  • Proficiency in mechanical assembly (press fits, fastener selection, harness, etc.)
  • Proficiency in electrical integration, quality matrix, testing and troubleshooting
  • Familiar with torque tools, fixture design, automation equipment, control systems and communication protocol
  • Experience in transitioning products from prototype to production
  • Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Well-organized with meticulous attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Design Engineering, NPI, Quality and Production to take design from initial concept through prototype development and into full production
  • Develop manufacturing technology from concept to production, providing insights during product definition to streamline design for manufacturing
  • Create process sequences, establish critical process parameters and recipes, and formulate assembly sequences to define critical quality parameters for efficient production
  • Lead the in-house development of novel, complex, innovative, and intricate prototype manufacturing equipment for both low and high-volume lines
  • Manage internal and external equipment suppliers to design, install and commission production lines, ensuring successful integration on time
  • Work closely with the production team to ramp up the line, addressing any technical issues, and optimizing processes until the line runs at the desired rate
  • Calculate equipment capacity and line balancing to ensure optimal production efficiency
  • Document engineering testing reports and maintain records of equipment performance, process improvements, and troubleshooting outcomes
