Job description
As a Manufacturing Equipment Engineer at Tesla, you will focus on sustaining, optimizing, and improving advanced automated manufacturing equipment for battery modules and packs. Your role will involve minimizing downtime, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring safety standards while becoming a subject matter expert on critical equipment.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Strong 2D and 3D CAD design skillset
- Hands-on knowledge of robotics (e.g., Fanuc), vision systems (e.g., Keyence, Cognex), dispense systems, and conveyance systems
- Familiarity with AGVs, torque tools, dispense, fluid fill systems, and EOL testing is a plus
- Strong skills in designing jigs, fixtures, and tooling with a focus on safety, DFM, and GD&T
- Demonstrated experience with 3-phase 480/208 VAC, single-phase 208/120 VAC, and 24 VDC systems
- Proven problem-solving ability using structured methods like DMAIC, 8D, or 5 Whys, and excellent communication and teamwork skills
Responsibilities
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FATs) that require international travel to validate and launch new production tooling
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment to support continuous production and minimize downtime
- Design and validate jigs, fixtures, tooling, and maintenance schedules to ensure safety and reliability
- Use first principles approach and lead upgrades and modifications to improve equipment performance and process capability
- Develop expertise on assigned equipment, including automation systems, to support training and troubleshooting
- Run ROI analysis and present engineering justification to Capex
