Job description
As a Mechanical Test Engineer at Tesla, you will ensure that low voltage hardware meets industry standards while working with a cross-functional team to develop innovative products. Your role will involve mechanical testing, designing test fixtures, and supporting the entire product lifecycle from design to recycling.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering program or equivalent experience
- Excellent mechanical first principles and basic electrical and software skills
- Experience with lab and test equipment such as thermal chambers, electrical tools, and strain gauges
- Basic understanding of electronic hardware including analog and digital circuitry
- Ability to create and interpret drawings and schematics with mechanical CAD software
- Strong communication skills for technical content
- 1-2 years full-time or internship experience preferred
Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical testing, supporting Tesla's low voltage programs
- Design, build, modify and automate test fixtures/equipment
- Develop methods, tools, and software to accelerate lab output
- Work with, train, and learn from technician and engineering staff
- Lead and participate in FMEA activities and test planning
- Analyze failures, craft problem statements, and help fix issues discovered during testing
- Communicate schedules and status to project managers and coordinate resources
- Become a trusted expert for solving difficult problems
