Job description

As a Mechanical Test Engineer at Tesla, you will ensure that low voltage hardware meets industry standards while working with a cross-functional team to develop innovative products. Your role will involve mechanical testing, designing test fixtures, and supporting the entire product lifecycle from design to recycling.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering program or equivalent experience
  • Excellent mechanical first principles and basic electrical and software skills
  • Experience with lab and test equipment such as thermal chambers, electrical tools, and strain gauges
  • Basic understanding of electronic hardware including analog and digital circuitry
  • Ability to create and interpret drawings and schematics with mechanical CAD software
  • Strong communication skills for technical content
  • 1-2 years full-time or internship experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical testing, supporting Tesla's low voltage programs
  • Design, build, modify and automate test fixtures/equipment
  • Develop methods, tools, and software to accelerate lab output
  • Work with, train, and learn from technician and engineering staff
  • Lead and participate in FMEA activities and test planning
  • Analyze failures, craft problem statements, and help fix issues discovered during testing
  • Communicate schedules and status to project managers and coordinate resources
  • Become a trusted expert for solving difficult problems
