Job description
Tesla is seeking a Production Engineer for its Cathode Advanced Manufacturing Production Engineering group to tackle challenges in battery cathode materials. The role involves supporting the scale-up of novel manufacturing processes and ensuring smooth operations at the Austin plant while maintaining product quality and troubleshooting issues.
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in Chemical/Process Engineering, Materials Engineering, Industrial Engineering or similar
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to solve technical problems
- 2-3 years experience in chemical production environments
- Experience in root cause analysis and troubleshooting of production processes
- Experience with process monitoring and statistical process control
- Experience developing process control narratives and working with controls engineers
- Preferred experience in high purity production facilities and bulk solids handling
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to production teams on processing activities in a novel chemical plant
- Develop operating procedures, safety protocols, and maintenance plans for large scale chemical process equipment
- Plan and coordinate operations of various unit operations, ensuring consistent flow while minimizing quality variability
- Track and analyze root cause for process upsets, equipment failures, and safety incidents
- Create sustainable data acquisition systems and monitor to present relevant high quality data visualization
- Train, coach, and develop operator staff to ensure fidelity to standards
- Support operations teams with achieving production and material quality targets
- Initiate, develop, and lead the implementation of process improvement projects
- Collaborate with R&D teams to develop tests for materials that provide early indications of product quality
