Job description

As a Mechanical Engineer Intern on Tesla’s Service Collision Development team, you will design Structural Repair Procedures and service parts for Tesla vehicles. The role involves collaborating with engineering teams to develop solutions for efficient service and requires a strong understanding of mechanical design and manufacturing concepts.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field from an ABET accredited program
  • Experience in mechanical design and drafting preferred
  • Experience with 3D CAD and 2D Drawing in SolidWorks or Catia
  • Strong experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Hands-on experience building mechanical systems preferred
  • Automotive, Aerospace, or heavy equipment industry preferred
  • Machine shop and fabrication experience preferred
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills
  • Proven ability to research information, solve challenging problems, and coordinate projects under tight timing constraints
  • Excellent fundamental engineering knowledge and examples of applied engineering success through work, projects, or academic endeavors
  • Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced team environment

Responsibilities

  • Create and present collision repair procedures to various engineering teams for review and approval
  • Review 3D models to determine repair feasibility
  • Interact with teams of engineers and collision center to define the root cause of issues being addressed
  • Review crash simulations
  • Design service parts in CAD and create 2D drawings
  • Perform hands-on investigations, lab tests, and validations
  • Manage multiple high priority projects simultaneously
  • Adapt to new and rapidly evolving computer software
  • Comply with all of Tesla’s safety rules, guidelines, and standards
