Job description

The Forward Deployed Engineer on the Maps Client Quality Engineering Intelligence (QEI) team will build AI-native tools that enhance the workflows of engineers and leads within the organization. This role focuses on understanding the needs of users, optimizing tool adoption, and integrating AI capabilities into daily operations. The engineer will work closely with various teams to ensure that AI integration is standardized and effective. The position requires a balance of technical skills and the ability to communicate effectively across teams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience shipping production software end-to-end.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and TypeScript.
  • Experience working from observation rather than written specifications.
  • Working knowledge of LLM application building and experience with LLM APIs.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Stay in tight communication with engineers and leads to understand their workflows.
  • Identify and build tools that improve the efficiency of engineering processes.
  • Evaluate emerging AI models and tooling patterns for potential integration.
  • Surface risks early during the release cycle to prevent blockers.
  • Communicate clearly with engineering teams and leadership about project progress.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
