Job description

Rivian is seeking a motivated mechanical product design engineer to join the Charging Products team. This role involves taking ownership of design deliverables for EV charging hardware, collaborating closely with senior engineers and suppliers. The engineer will be responsible for executing complex mechanical designs and supporting certification and validation efforts. This hands-on position requires independent work and effective communication with contract manufacturers.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 3–6 years of experience in consumer or industrial hardware product development.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (CATIA V6 / ENOVIA strongly preferred) and 2D drawing creation including GD&T.
  • Working knowledge of injection molding, sheet metal, and electromechanical assembly processes.
  • Experience supporting or coordinating design validation and certification testing (UL, ETL, or similar) is a meaningful advantage.
  • Familiarity with Jira or similar sprint-based engineering tracking tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the full development lifecycle of EV charging hardware from detailed design through production launch.
  • Perform CAD modeling, drawing creation, and engineering releases for assigned components and subassemblies.
  • Support FEA and structural analyses to de-risk design decisions ahead of tooling release.
  • Coordinate lab builds, prototype hardware inspection, and first-article reviews.
  • Track open engineering issues in sprint tools and maintain up-to-date status on assigned workstreams.
  • Prepare engineering documentation at key program milestones.
  • Support UL and regulatory compliance activities under the direction of senior engineers.
  • Collaborate with staff product and mechanical design engineers to execute design changes.
  • Report on and escalate design issues that require senior engineering input.

Benefits

  • Employees at Rivian are often offered comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) with company match, ESPP and potential RSU grants, performance bonuses, and generous time off including paid parental and sick leave. Perks can include 24/7 mental-health coaching and therapy, Hinge Health for Anthem enrollees, tuition assistance and professional development, plus on-site food and a wide range of employee discounts on items like computers, mobile phones, home loans, and pet care.
