Job description

The Amazon Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) Data Services organization is seeking a Language Engineer to enhance natural language processing and machine learning capabilities. This role involves working closely with product managers, engineers, and data scientists to align AI systems with human policies. The Language Engineer will focus on dataset construction, linguistic annotation, and automatic processing of large datasets. This position requires a strong background in computational linguistics and the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Master's or higher degree in a relevant field such as computational linguistics or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in computational linguistics or language data processing.
  • Experience with language annotation and other forms of data markup.
  • Experience working with speech and text language data in multiple languages.
  • Excellent communication and strong organizational skills.
  • Experience in writing grammars and building finite state transducers (FSTs).
  • Experience with statistical language modeling.
  • PhD in Computational Linguistics or equivalent field with computational emphasis.
  • Practical knowledge of version control and agile development.
  • Familiarity with database queries and data analysis processes such as SQL, R, or Matlab.

Responsibilities

  • Design data collection and creation tasks in response to science needs.
  • Analyze and extract language-related insights from large datasets.
  • Build tools or tool prototypes for data analysis or data authoring using Python or another scripting language.
  • Use modeling tools to bootstrap or test new functionalities.
  • Collaborate with scientists and software engineers to evaluate the performance of language models.
  • Handle competing requests from a range of data customers.
