The Sr. Mechanical Engineer - CFD will focus on front end engineering CFD studies, mechanical system selection, and site design strategy for new site developments within AWS Infrastructure Services. This role involves collaborating with a diverse team to deliver innovative and efficient data center designs. The engineer will act as a subject matter expert in CFD, providing insights and reports to support site planning and design strategies. The position requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to drive process improvements across the organization.
Requirements
- 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission critical facilities such as data centers or power generation.
- Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering.
- Knowledge of continuously operating redundant electrical systems, cooling systems, air flow containment systems, and building management systems.
- Experience in carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment.
- Experience in reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings and specifications.
- Professional Engineer License.
Responsibilities
- Perform CFD models on innovative new and existing site designs.
- Drive process improvements across the organization.
- Provide reports to senior leadership on the results of CFD models.
- Perform water efficiency use calculations to determine the quantity of water needed on site.
- Work with global ME teams to achieve alignment of design and CFD modeling standards.
- Identify improvement areas in next-generation data center designs based on current mechanical systems.
- Define, scope, and participate in project teams focused on delivering innovations in data centers.
- Influence the mechanical design and construction of new data centers.
- Provide total CFD project management and oversight of project scope, timeline, and budget.
- Record and report key metrics to team members and management.
- Drive teams to supply root-cause analysis and long-term corrective measures for issues in data centers.
