Job description

The Software Development Engineer role at Amazon Ads focuses on building systems that process location signals for ad impressions. The Geo Targeting team works at the intersection of ad tech, large-scale data infrastructure, and applied machine learning. This position involves designing real-time systems that handle noisy location data and ensuring accurate targeting for advertisers. The team values clarity, simplicity, and operational rigor, providing engineers with ownership and influence over technical direction.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 5+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language
  • 5+ years of experience leading design or architecture of new and existing systems
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team
  • 5+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Design and build real-time location signal processing systems that ingest, score, and resolve multiple geo data sources.
  • Architect data pipelines that connect large-scale address and device signals to impression-level location inference.
  • Own the integration between location intelligence systems and the bid optimization stack.
  • Solve for international coverage gaps where existing location inference methods are unreliable.
  • Drive operational excellence across geo infrastructure, including latency, accuracy measurement, and cost efficiency.
  • Lead design reviews, mentor engineers, and influence technical direction across adjacent teams.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
