Job description

The Software Development Engineer role on the Aurora Control Plane team focuses on building and operating distributed systems at scale for Amazon Aurora, a key service in AWS. This team is responsible for critical infrastructure that supports database migrations, replication, and high availability. The position involves designing and implementing features that impact numerous AWS customers who rely on Aurora and RDS for their workloads. Candidates should be passionate about databases, distributed systems, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of design or architecture experience of new and existing systems
  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • 1+ years of experience designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications
  • 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement features for the Aurora Control Plane systems
  • Build fault-tolerant replication pipelines
  • Improve database availability architectures
  • Manage engine-based replication across regions and availability zones
  • Ensure correct application of database parameters across all supported engines
  • Architect the availability framework for Multi-AZ DB Cluster deployments
