Job description

The Bridge Engineering Professional role at Jacobs focuses on supporting the development of bridge projects from conceptual phases through to construction. The position is based in Boise, Idaho, and allows for a hybrid work schedule. The team is dedicated to solving critical infrastructure challenges while ensuring innovative engineering solutions. This role requires collaboration with various disciplines to meet project milestones and deliver high-quality engineering plans.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering or a related field and 2 years of work experience in the job offered or a related Structural Engineering occupation.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering or a related field and 4 years of work experience in the job offered or a related Structural Engineering occupation.
  • Expertise in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of bridge-specific software like MIDAS Civil and structural analysis software like ETABS & ENERCALC.
  • Ability to prepare and review detailed engineering plans, drawings, calculations, and specifications.
  • Engineer-in-Training certification.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of projects through the conceptual/study phase, preliminary engineering, and final design.
  • Prepare and oversee staff in the CAD development of bridge details and plan sets.
  • Compile bridge type, size, and location studies.
  • Coordinate bridge layouts, details, and constraints with other disciplines including roadway, drainage, and survey.
  • Identify creative and innovative bridge engineering solutions based on client, project, and site constraints.
  • Perform calculations, assemble calculation packages, and provide bridge load ratings.
  • Coordinate with a team to meet project milestones.
  • Perform construction site visits as needed.
  • Assist in the development of specifications, cost estimates, and preparation of final bid packages.
  • Review contractor submitted shop and working drawings and calculations, RFIs, and requests for design changes.
