Job description

The Network Development Engineer role at AWS focuses on building, deploying, and scaling Amazon networks that support AWS and its customers across global datacenters. The position is part of the Network Fabric Engineering team, which is responsible for ensuring the efficiency and reliability of data center networks. The role involves collaborating with various engineering teams to implement innovative networking solutions while maintaining high standards of safety and security. Requirements

  • 4+ years of major internet routing protocols experience
  • 4+ years of working in a Linux/Unix environment experience
  • 4+ years experience in a network focused hands-on technical role working with IP routing protocols/technologies and platforms in large scale data center and/or WAN network environments
  • 4+ years experience developing engineering, deployment, or operations mechanisms to support IP network and/or networking systems
  • 4+ years experience in a technical on-call capacity, responding to customer impacting events, mitigating and root cause analysis of those events
  • 1+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience
  • Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, Server Load Balancing, and Network Security architecture and core technologies
  • Experience with one or more of the following router, server load balancer, and firewall vendor platforms: Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, Arista, Brocade, Extreme, Citrix, F5, Fortinet, Palo Alto
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with networking and/or systems technologies
  • Knowledge of network hardware and packet forwarding architectures

Responsibilities

  • Perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, and technology refresh
  • Create and implement changes on the network
  • Work closely with automation teams in defining the tools that allow scaling at a higher volume
  • Lead network projects in network sustaining engineering, deployment, scaling, and optimization
  • Sustain AWS next generation networks by providing critical network support to diagnose and resolve large-scale networking events
  • Operate and troubleshoot network routing, interconnectivity, platforms, performance, and configurations issues
  • Drive and support innovation from Top of Rack to the Network Border
  • Partner with the broader Network/Infrastructure organization in network engineering and configurations standards
  • Collaborate with Network/Systems/Software Engineering teams to ensure smooth roll-out of new designs and products
  • Maintain standards across the networking toolset and ensure compliance with those standards
