JobsSoftware Development Engineer — Storage
Job description
The Systems Development Engineer at Annapurna Labs will focus on architecting, building, and operating high-performance storage infrastructure to accelerate silicon development. This role involves managing storage platforms such as Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP and FSx for Lustre, enabling chip design teams to work more efficiently. The engineer will also build a Storage as a Service platform and ensure optimal performance through monitoring and observability. The position is part of a team that supports breakthrough innovations in custom silicon for AWS.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
- 5+ years of professional experience in storage engineering, systems engineering, or infrastructure development
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with NAS/NFS storage systems, specifically NetApp ONTAP or equivalent platforms
- 3+ years of experience with AWS cloud services, including storage services like FSx, S3, EBS, and EFS
- 2+ years of experience with infrastructure as code tools such as CDK, Terraform, or CloudFormation
- Experience with Linux/Unix systems administration and networking fundamentals
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Go, or TypeScript
- Knowledge of storage protocols including NFS, SMB/CIFS, and iSCSI
- Experience with Amazon FSx for Lustre and EFA-enabled configurations for HPC workloads
- Experience building self-service storage platforms with quota management and automated provisioning
- Familiarity with HPC workloads, job schedulers, or electronic design automation environments
- Experience with storage observability tools like CloudWatch metrics and custom dashboards
- NetApp certifications or AWS Solutions Architect Professional certification
- Experience mentoring engineers and driving storage best practices across an organization
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and operate high-performance storage platforms optimized for EDA and HPC workloads.
- Manage NFS exports, ONTAP SVMs, intelligent tiering, snapshot policies, and quota enforcement across multi-tenant environments.
- Deploy all storage infrastructure using AWS CDK and architect cross-VPC and multi-account solutions.
- Build monitoring and observability for storage health, utilization, and cost trends.
- Continuously evaluate and adopt new AWS storage features to keep the platform at the leading edge.
- Profile I/O patterns across EDA workloads and tune file system configurations for optimal performance.
- Collaborate with silicon design and verification teams to proactively scale capacity.
- Build a Storage as a Service platform with self-service provisioning and defined SLOs.
- Establish incident response processes for storage-related failures.
- Engage with AWS service teams on feature requests and roadmap alignment.
Benefits
- Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
