Job description
The role is for a senior machine learning engineer on Apple's Intelligence System Experience team, which focuses on developing advanced modeling technologies and scalable ML infrastructure. The team aims to enhance AI-driven experiences for users through innovative software systems and algorithms. Candidates will work on improving training and inference speed while contributing to Apple's centralized ML platform. There are opportunities to open source contributions and collaborate with a team of skilled engineers.
Requirements
- PhD or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience.
- 3+ years of experience in the AI/ML field.
- Strong Python programming skills.
- Solid understanding of software-hardware co-design principles and algorithms.
- Deep experience with PyTorch internals and high-performance ML infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of LLM architectures and their core building blocks.
- Experience working on AI/ML-optimized runtime stacks.
- Familiarity with parallelization algorithms for large model training.
- Familiarity with recent developments in foundation model architectures.
- Experience with parallel training libraries such as PyTorch Distributed, DeepSpeed, or FairScale.
- Experience building ML models for on-device inference.
- Publication record at ML conferences such as MLSys, NeurIPS, etc.
Responsibilities
- Design software systems and algorithms for scalable training and inference.
- Develop core components for the scalable ML platform.
- Push the limits of existing training technologies.
- Create new techniques to overcome system constraints.
- Deploy work on high-impact tasks across teams building Apple Intelligence products.
- Encourage and support open-sourcing contributions.
