Job description

The role is for a senior AI/ML engineer focused on applied machine learning at the intersection of 3D geometry and manufacturing processes. You will join the Data Science and Visualization team at Apple, collaborating closely with the Advanced Development Lab to integrate machine learning into machining and prototyping workflows. The position emphasizes understanding and encoding tacit expertise from engineers and machinists into reliable tools. You will have autonomy in architectural decisions and accountability for the systems you develop.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 7 years of experience, Master's degree plus 5 years of experience, or PhD plus 2 years of experience in a relevant analytical field.
  • Strong Python skills and fluency with the standard machine learning stack.
  • Full-lifecycle machine learning experience including problem framing, data work, training, evaluation, and iteration.
  • Hands-on experience designing or extending agentic AI systems and their evaluation frameworks.
  • Comfort collaborating with non-ML domain experts to draw out tacit expertise.
  • Familiarity with 3D geometric data formats or libraries.
  • Experience applying machine learning in engineering, manufacturing, or machining domains.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and own machine learning systems end-to-end for machining and design-for-manufacturing workflows.
  • Work directly with engineers and machinists to understand their constraints and build trusted tools.
  • Choose appropriate tools for each job, including classical statistics, classical ML, deep learning, and generative AI.
  • Iterate on systems with tight feedback loops to ensure reliability and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and visualization engineers to enhance the overall system.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
