Job description

The Data Engineer role on the S2I2 Engineering team focuses on building data products that integrate sustainability into AWS infrastructure operations. This team is dedicated to developing measurement and decision-support systems that help AWS achieve its sustainability goals. You will collaborate with a diverse group of professionals, including scientists and engineers, to create reliable data pipelines and models. The position emphasizes the importance of data quality and supports AWS's commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of data engineering experience
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines
  • Experience with AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions
  • Experience with non-relational databases or data stores such as object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, and column-family databases

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain large-scale data pipelines and models that power sustainability measurement across AWS.
  • Partner with research scientists and applied scientists to productionize sustainability models into reliable, automated systems.
  • Build and maintain data products for the AWS Supplier database to enable sustainability-informed procurement decisions.
  • Build the data infrastructure for Service Sustainability Profiles to measure and attribute environmental impact at the service level.
  • Own data quality, lineage, and trust to ensure outputs meet the rigor required for third-party assurance.
  • Contribute to the Sustainability Data Platform by building shared data infrastructure that scales across various workstreams.
  • Support the evolution toward decision intelligence by building self-service data products.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
