The role is for a full-stack engineer on the Decisioning & Optimization engineering team at Netflix Ads, focusing on building tools and dashboards for ad decisioning systems. The team is responsible for real-time ad decisioning, balancing revenue goals and user experience. The engineer will work on observability and debugging tools to enhance the decisioning stack's transparency and usability. This position requires strong analytical skills and a product mindset to improve the tooling experience for engineers and data scientists.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience building production systems.
- Meaningful full-stack experience across UI, BFF/API layer, and backend services.
- Proficiency in modern UI frameworks, preferably React, TypeScript/JavaScript, and Node.js.
- Experience building scalable backend systems in Java, Kotlin, or similar JVM languages.
- Experience building observability tooling, operational dashboards, or debugging tools for complex distributed systems.
- Strong analytical mindset with a bias toward building tools that enable self-service investigation and decision-making.
- Comfortable with data and can query, aggregate, and visualize large datasets across SQL, streaming data, and time-series metrics.
- Experience building tools that instrument or trace request paths through multi-service architectures.
Responsibilities
- Design and build end-to-end internal tools and dashboards for ad decisioning visibility.
- Build an ad decision debugger to trace the full path of an ad request.
- Develop model serving observability tools to monitor inference latency and score distributions.
- Create campaign delivery monitoring tools for spend tracking and pacing curve visualization.
- Own the UI and BFF layer for experimentation and testing platforms.
- Develop and maintain diagnostics, logging, and telemetry frameworks for system performance.
- Engage with engineers, data scientists, and ad ops to gather feedback and improve tooling.
