Job description

The role is for a senior technical leader on the Ad Eventing team at Netflix, responsible for setting the technical direction and architectural standards for event processing at scale. This team focuses on building a high-throughput, low-latency pipeline that processes billions of ad events daily. The position requires a blend of hands-on coding and strategic influence across the organization. The ideal candidate will drive operational excellence and modularization while collaborating closely with various teams.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience building distributed systems and backend services at large scale.
  • 3+ years of experience in the ads domain.
  • Deep experience with high-throughput event ingestion and stream processing at scale, such as Kafka, Flink, or Spark Streaming.
  • Experience designing event schemas and data contracts for multiple downstream consumers.
  • Strong understanding of exactly-once and at-least-once delivery semantics and idempotency patterns.
  • Track record of technical leadership across multiple teams, influencing architectural direction.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical direction of the Ad Eventing team, including architecture reviews and capacity planning.
  • Architect and evolve the end-to-end ad event pipeline under strict latency and throughput constraints.
  • Scale event ingestion infrastructure to handle billions of events per day with high availability.
  • Design and implement robust deduplication and validation systems to ensure event accuracy.
  • Build and operate stream processing pipelines that power real-time signals for reporting.
  • Define and maintain authoritative event schemas and data contracts for billing and reporting.
  • Partner closely with Ad Serving, Pacing, Reporting, and Science teams to meet data accuracy requirements.
  • Drive operational excellence across the eventing stack, focusing on reliability and observability.

Benefits

  • Employees at Netflix are often offered flexible, people-first benefits—unlimited time away, generous parental leave, global family-forming support, mental-health programs (mindfulness, free counseling/coaching), and health coverage tailored by country. Financially, Netflix pays at personal top-of-market and lets employees choose their mix of cash vs. fully-vested 10-year stock options, alongside donation and volunteer matching. Convenience perks can include trust-based travel/expense policies, relocation support, and “Work, Not Drive” rideshare flexibility.
