Job description

The Full Stack Engineer (L5) role at Netflix focuses on developing the Netflix Playground, a platform for kids to engage with games and interactive experiences. The position requires expertise in Android development while also being comfortable with backend services. The engineer will work on large-scale experiments and collaborate with game developers to enhance the platform's capabilities. This role emphasizes performance, safety, and creating a seamless user experience for children.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in building production-quality Kotlin or Java code with a strong understanding of architecture, lifecycle, and performance.
  • Experience in API design, service contracts, application logic, and observability at scale.
  • Familiarity with WebView and JS bridge integration for communication between native clients and web-based games.
  • Curiosity about game development and the technical challenges of running games inside a native container.
  • Ability to work on greenfield projects and make high-leverage decisions in ambiguous situations.
  • Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools and strong verification habits.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build Netflix Playground features end-to-end, including server-side APIs and Android client implementations.
  • Build and maintain the WebView and JS bridge layer for reliable web-based game integration.
  • Define API and integration contracts for game developers to bring their experiences into the Playground hub.
  • Develop backend services for game discovery, user state, achievements, and session management with a focus on clean API design.
  • Collaborate with game developers to understand their integration needs and make informed SDK design tradeoffs.
  • Architect code for testability and write automated tests to maintain quality in a fast-moving codebase.
  • Utilize AI-assisted engineering tools to enhance work efficiency and improve team quality.

Benefits

  • Employees at Netflix are often offered flexible, people-first benefits—unlimited time away, generous parental leave, global family-forming support, mental-health programs (mindfulness, free counseling/coaching), and health coverage tailored by country. Financially, Netflix pays at personal top-of-market and lets employees choose their mix of cash vs. fully-vested 10-year stock options, alongside donation and volunteer matching. Convenience perks can include trust-based travel/expense policies, relocation support, and “Work, Not Drive” rideshare flexibility.
