Job description

The role is for a systems engineer on the Decisioning & Optimization engineering team at Netflix Ads, focusing on building and scaling the core infrastructure for ad optimization. The team is responsible for real-time ad decisioning, ensuring high-quality ads while balancing revenue and user experience. This position involves working across the stack from model serving to auction execution. The engineer will contribute to systems that directly impact revenue and advertiser outcomes.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience building distributed systems and backend services at scale.
  • 2+ years of ads domain experience, specifically in ad serving, delivery, or marketplace systems.
  • Experience with ML model serving infrastructure, including real-time inference and model deployment pipelines.
  • Experience building or working on core ad tech systems such as ad servers, bidders, or ranking components.
  • Ability to build APIs and backend services that integrate across a multi-team platform.
  • Understanding of ad serving concepts including inventory management and supply-demand dynamics.
  • Comfortable working at the intersection of engineering and data science.

Responsibilities

  • Build and evolve the real-time ad decisioning path including ranking, scoring, bidding, and pacing.
  • Develop and operate ML model serving infrastructure supporting concurrent hot-path models with low latency.
  • Partner with Science and Platform teams to productionize models and deploy algorithms.
  • Build simulation and testing frameworks for offline validation of marketplace changes.
  • Implement and improve real-time pacing systems for budget delivery accuracy.
  • Contribute to goal-based delivery optimization for dynamic budget and inventory allocation.
  • Build reusable components and clean interfaces to improve developer velocity.
  • Participate in operational excellence including reliability and incident response.

Benefits

  • Employees at Netflix are often offered flexible, people-first benefits—unlimited time away, generous parental leave, global family-forming support, mental-health programs (mindfulness, free counseling/coaching), and health coverage tailored by country. Financially, Netflix pays at personal top-of-market and lets employees choose their mix of cash vs. fully-vested 10-year stock options, alongside donation and volunteer matching. Convenience perks can include trust-based travel/expense policies, relocation support, and “Work, Not Drive” rideshare flexibility.
