Job description

The role is for an experienced engineer to join the Cloud Gateway team at Netflix, focusing on designing, building, and operating the core infrastructure that facilitates secure and efficient communication for internal and external applications. The team supports critical business areas such as Streaming, Live Events, Ads, Gaming, and Gen AI, handling billions of requests daily. Candidates will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on Netflix's cloud platform. The position emphasizes collaboration, mentorship, and driving alignment with stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Experience designing and developing software for highly reliable and highly scalable distributed systems in a cloud environment.
  • Hands-on experience with API Gateway technologies, such as Netflix Zuul OSS, Envoy Gateway, Kubernetes Gateway API, Istio Gateway, or other Gateway solutions.
  • Deep expertise in L4 (TCP/UDP) and L7 (HTTP/S, gRPC, WebSockets) protocols.
  • Solid understanding of Kubernetes internals including Networking, CNI, CRDs, and Operator patterns.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to break down complex problems and deliver actionable solutions.
  • Demonstrated high degree of ownership and accountability for execution in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Go, or C++.
  • Evidence of leading large-scale migrations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and integrate functionality within the data plane and control plane to enhance security, observability, and resilience for cloud traffic.
  • Build software solutions and tools to improve developer and product experience in collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
  • Drive alignment with stakeholders and set partner expectations.
  • Provide technical mentorship for junior engineers and establish best practices through detailed design reviews and high-quality code reviews.

Benefits

  • Employees at Netflix are often offered flexible, people-first benefits—unlimited time away, generous parental leave, global family-forming support, mental-health programs (mindfulness, free counseling/coaching), and health coverage tailored by country. Financially, Netflix pays at personal top-of-market and lets employees choose their mix of cash vs. fully-vested 10-year stock options, alongside donation and volunteer matching. Convenience perks can include trust-based travel/expense policies, relocation support, and “Work, Not Drive” rideshare flexibility.
