Job description

The Detection Engineering Team at Netflix is focused on analyzing high-risk attack paths and creating effective detections to minimize business risk. The team aims to enhance detection frameworks and proactively identify malicious activities. This role involves working collaboratively within a tight-knit team to develop compensating detective controls. The ideal candidate will contribute to improving detection capabilities and risk mitigation strategies.

Requirements

  • Comfortable working across the information security domain with familiarity in endpoint, email, network, identity management, cloud security, vulnerability management, incident response, and threat intelligence.
  • Hands-on experience analyzing and responding to security events, including conducting log analysis and developing queries.
  • Ability to identify trends and relationships between internal and external data sources for risk mitigation.
  • Experience implementing and configuring common security tools.
  • Experience writing detections at scale using a detection-as-code approach.
  • Proficiency in scripting and developing automations using Python and SQL in a cloud-based environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to inform stakeholders proactively.
  • Ability to operate effectively across teams in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Experience applying GenAI technologies to automate security operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Mature and expand detection frameworks, platforms, and portfolio.
  • Create and improve detections to minimize risk to Netflix.
  • Proactively surface malicious or anomalous behavior to identify attacker presence.
  • Generate the largest impact and benefits for Netflix using a risk-based prioritization mindset.
  • Collaborate with stakeholder teams to enhance detection capabilities.

Benefits

  • Employees at Netflix are often offered flexible, people-first benefits—unlimited time away, generous parental leave, global family-forming support, mental-health programs (mindfulness, free counseling/coaching), and health coverage tailored by country. Financially, Netflix pays at personal top-of-market and lets employees choose their mix of cash vs. fully-vested 10-year stock options, alongside donation and volunteer matching. Convenience perks can include trust-based travel/expense policies, relocation support, and “Work, Not Drive” rideshare flexibility.
