The Critical Operations and Reliability Engineering (CORE) team is responsible for maintaining a high-quality experience for millions of members worldwide. This position involves partnering with engineering teams to ensure the reliability of member-facing services and addressing systemic risks through data-driven approaches. The role requires a proactive mindset to identify and mitigate reliability issues in distributed systems.

Requirements

  • Strong coding skills in one or more languages such as Python, Go, or Java.
  • Fluency in modern cloud infrastructure with hands-on experience on AWS/Azure/GCP.
  • Deep understanding of large-scale distributed systems and common failure modes.
  • Track record of proactively identifying reliability risks and implementing solutions.
  • Strong observability and performance tuning skills.
  • Experience with incident management and response.
  • Strong collaboration and influence skills.
  • Ability to balance reliability, velocity, and cost.
  • Growth mindset and curiosity.
  • Embraces agency and thrives with loosely defined goals.

Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve resilient infrastructure for Netflix member-facing services.
  • Take a data-driven approach to reliability to identify and address systemic risks.
  • Partner with engineering and product teams to embed reliability and observability into the software development lifecycle.
  • Define and measure Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and other reliability metrics.
  • Build and improve automated processes for deployment, monitoring, capacity management, and incident response.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for critical Streaming services.
  • Lead and contribute to incident response focusing on learning and systemic fixes.
  • Proactively identify and reduce sources of instability in distributed systems.
  • Champion a culture of reliability across business domains.

Benefits

  • Employees at Netflix are often offered flexible, people-first benefits—unlimited time away, generous parental leave, global family-forming support, mental-health programs (mindfulness, free counseling/coaching), and health coverage tailored by country. Financially, Netflix pays at personal top-of-market and lets employees choose their mix of cash vs. fully-vested 10-year stock options, alongside donation and volunteer matching. Convenience perks can include trust-based travel/expense policies, relocation support, and “Work, Not Drive” rideshare flexibility.
