Job description
The L5 Software Engineer role at Netflix focuses on building and operating the foundational services for the Games Developer Platform and Cloud Games infrastructure. The Games Systems team aims to enhance player discovery, gameplay, and engagement across Netflix's game portfolio. This position involves designing, implementing, and scaling backend services that empower game developers and improve the global member experience. The role requires a passion for games and distributed systems to help reinvent video gaming at a global scale.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional experience designing, building, and operating highly available distributed backend systems at scale.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, including low-latency architecture and fault-tolerant design.
- Strong experience building developer-facing platform services and APIs, such as REST and gRPC.
- Proficiency in one or more modern backend languages, such as Java or C++.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure, as well as microservices and both SQL and NoSQL data stores.
- A track record of technical leadership, driving complex projects end-to-end and influencing across team boundaries.
- Comfort with high ambiguity and the ability to define structure and clarity in a fast-moving environment.
- Prior experience in the gaming industry or working on game platform infrastructure is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Design and operate the foundational systems for identity, authentication, and authorization.
- Architect and evolve core services for the Netflix Game Developer Platform, including cloud saves and leaderboards.
- Mentor junior engineers through design pairing, code review, and hands-on guidance.
- Own the full lifecycle of services from design through production, ensuring reliability and operational excellence.
