Job description

The Data Engineer role at Netflix focuses on building robust and scalable data frameworks to enhance data privacy and compliance. The team is responsible for managing complex data ecosystems as Netflix expands its product offerings. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data engineering and a passion for consumer-centric data privacy. This position involves working with various data technologies to create efficient data pipelines and frameworks.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of software/data engineering experience.
  • Highly proficient in at least one of Java, Python, or Scala.
  • Proficient in advanced SQL in a complex data environment.
  • Highly experienced in engineering data pipelines using big data technologies such as Hive, Presto, Spark, and Flink.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with multiple stakeholder groups.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement frameworks to meet internal and consumer-facing data privacy needs.
  • Engineer scalable data pipelines to process structured and unstructured data.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Netflix's data ecosystem from a privacy perspective.
  • Partner with privacy engineering teams to support product goals and regulatory data requests.
  • Mentor and inspire teammates to elevate the team's impact.

Benefits

  • Employees at Netflix are often offered flexible, people-first benefits—unlimited time away, generous parental leave, global family-forming support, mental-health programs (mindfulness, free counseling/coaching), and health coverage tailored by country. Financially, Netflix pays at personal top-of-market and lets employees choose their mix of cash vs. fully-vested 10-year stock options, alongside donation and volunteer matching. Convenience perks can include trust-based travel/expense policies, relocation support, and “Work, Not Drive” rideshare flexibility.
