Netflix is seeking a Data Engineer to join the Privacy and Legal Data Engineering pod, which focuses on building scalable data management frameworks to ensure high data privacy standards. The role involves working with diverse data technologies to create robust data pipelines and frameworks that handle customer personal data appropriately. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data systems and a passion for improving data privacy practices. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a commitment to compliance and risk mitigation.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of software/data engineering experience.
  • Highly proficient in at least one of Java, Python, or Scala.
  • Proficient in advanced SQL and effective in a complex data environment.
  • Highly experienced in engineering data pipelines using big data technologies such as Hive, Presto, Spark, and Flink.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with multiple types of stakeholder groups.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement frameworks to meet internal and consumer-facing data privacy needs.
  • Engineer efficient and scalable data pipelines to process structured and unstructured data.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Netflix's data ecosystem from a privacy perspective.
  • Partner with privacy engineering teams to support product goals and respond to data requests.

Benefits

  • Employees at Netflix are often offered flexible, people-first benefits—unlimited time away, generous parental leave, global family-forming support, mental-health programs (mindfulness, free counseling/coaching), and health coverage tailored by country. Financially, Netflix pays at personal top-of-market and lets employees choose their mix of cash vs. fully-vested 10-year stock options, alongside donation and volunteer matching. Convenience perks can include trust-based travel/expense policies, relocation support, and “Work, Not Drive” rideshare flexibility.
