Job description
The Principal Cloud Database Engineer will join the Enterprise Infrastructure & Operations Capacity Database team at Fidelity, focusing on capacity and performance reviews, database optimization, and reliability in hybrid cloud and on-prem environments. This role involves collaboration with various teams to enhance database performance and implement best practices. The engineer will also drive automation and reliability engineering practices while participating in a 24X7 on-call rotation for incident remediation. The team is dedicated to providing business-facing database capacity solutions using advanced methodologies and technologies.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in Oracle Database technologies with a focus on capacity and performance.
- 2+ years of cloud database performance expertise in PostgreSQL in large-scale environments.
- Strong knowledge of AWS and Azure database services.
- Proficiency in shell scripting and some Python for automation.
- Expertise in SQL, PL/SQL tuning, and execution plan analysis.
- Familiarity with DevOps principles and cloud operational models.
Responsibilities
- Optimize and tune databases including Oracle and PostgreSQL.
- Diagnose and resolve performance issues through query analysis and indexing strategies.
- Conduct capacity reviews for complex applications across cloud and on-prem environments.
- Support AWS and Azure database services and contribute to hybrid architecture improvements.
- Implement proactive alerting and observability enhancements using AI/ML tools.
- Collaborate with developers to optimize SQL and reduce latency in high-volume applications.
- Drive automation and reliability engineering practices to minimize manual intervention.
- Participate in a 24X7 on-call rotation for database capacity incident remediation.
- Write clear and concise technical documentation to maintain standards and procedures.
