Job description
The Staff Quality Engineer will lead the quality program for a prototype assembly line focused on autonomous food-delivery robots. This role involves establishing quality systems, processes, and supplier partnerships to transition from prototype to scalable production. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in supplier quality and manufacturing process development. This position is based in Fremont, CA, and requires collaboration with various teams to ensure high-reliability products.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of quality engineering experience in hardware, robotics, automotive, aerospace, or another complex electromechanical domain.
- Direct experience in establishing supplier quality programs, including qualification, auditing, and issue resolution.
- Experience in designing and implementing quality control plans and inspection standards for prototype or low-volume lines.
- Proficiency in root-cause analysis, CAPA development, and statistical process control (SPC).
- Familiarity with tools and frameworks such as APQP, PPAP, MSA, GR&R, and digital quality management platforms.
- Working knowledge of QMS integration into ERP systems.
Responsibilities
- Build the end-to-end quality program for a prototype robotic assembly line, including process documentation and manufacturing control plans.
- Define quality standards and inspection criteria for parts and sub-assemblies.
- Establish and manage the supplier quality function, including qualification, audits, and ongoing performance monitoring.
- Collaborate with systems engineering to derive PFMEAs and connect system-level risks to process-level controls.
- Develop in-line quality control processes, including incoming inspection and end-of-line validation for prototype builds.
- Lead the Material Review Board to address non-conforming material.
- Conduct root-cause analysis for build issues and drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Partner with manufacturing, design, systems, and test teams to integrate quality requirements from concept through deployment.
- Support supplier visits and on-site investigations to ensure build quality and reliability.
- Manage the transfer of internal quality practices to external partners.
