Job description

The Principal Engineer on Ads at DoorDash will serve as the technical leader for the Ads organization, focusing on setting architectural direction and driving long-term technical strategy. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including Machine Learning, Product, Data Science, and Infrastructure teams, to enhance the advertising platform. The successful candidate will lead large-scale initiatives and shape the engineering culture within the Ads organization. This position emphasizes hands-on problem-solving and the development of sophisticated distributed systems.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years of industry experience with a proven track record in leading large-scale platform initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to define and drive multi-year technical roadmaps.
  • Deep expertise in building and scaling platform systems.
  • Meaningful experience in ads, commerce, or marketplace platforms.
  • Ability to operate at director level scope while remaining hands-on.
  • Exceptional technical intuition and strong cross-functional influence skills.
  • Humility and a growth mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead for the Ads organization, providing architectural vision across the full Ads stack.
  • Drive alignment across Machine Learning, Infrastructure, Product, Data Science, and partner engineering teams.
  • Mentor engineers across the Ads organization to enhance technical excellence.
  • Define patterns, principles, and standards for designing and operating large-scale distributed systems.
  • Engage in hands-on problem-solving for complex distributed systems challenges.
