Job description

The Staff Software Engineer for the Machine Learning Platform at Stripe will serve as a technical lead and key contributor to the evolution of platforms that power Stripe's ML-driven products. This role involves working closely with ML engineers, data scientists, and product teams to enhance the impact of machine learning across the company. The ML Platform team focuses on building reliable, low-latency systems that facilitate the development and deployment of machine learning models. The position offers a unique opportunity to influence the technical direction and strategy of ML infrastructure at Stripe.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience or equivalent domain expertise.
  • A solid background in service-oriented architecture and large-scale distributed systems.
  • Experience building and operating production ML platforms in areas such as model training and serving.
  • Strong communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of end-to-end architecture and system design for large, complex projects across the ML Platform.
  • Define technical direction for ambiguous projects and transform user needs into platform strategy.
  • Design system architectures for challenging ML Platform problems including model training and low-latency inference.
  • Scope and lead large projects with significant business impact from requirements through to production operation.
  • Mentor and grow other engineers while serving as a role model for software system design and implementation.
