Job description

The Product Design Engineer role at Apple focuses on the mechanical design of parts, assemblies, and modules for Apple Vision products. This position involves collaboration with various teams, including Industrial Design and Manufacturing, to ensure the successful development of innovative consumer electronics. The role requires a strong background in mechanical engineering and hands-on experience in product design. You will be responsible for the entire product design cycle, from concept development to testing and production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • 10+ years of hands-on, consumer electronics product design experience
  • Strong mechanical engineering analytical skills and experience selecting materials and manufacturing processes
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD, preferably NX
  • Proficiency in GD&T techniques and creating 2D drawings
  • Experience working with external manufacturing vendors
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Creative problem-solving skills with experience in failure analysis
  • Detail-oriented and capable of handling multiple assignments
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering or similar field is preferred
  • Fluent in Unigraphics NX and statistical software like JMP
  • Experience leading teams through the product development cycle
  • Knowledge of consumer electronics in various disciplines
  • Experience collaborating with Asian manufacturing facilities
  • Experience designing wearable consumer electronics for fit, comfort, and ergonomics

Responsibilities

  • Own the mechanical design of parts, assemblies, and modules within Apple Vision products.
  • Engage in multi-disciplinary collaboration with teams such as Industrial Design and Project Management.
  • Conduct analysis, assembly, and reliability assessments of design components.
  • Participate in the product design cycle from concept development to prototyping and testing.
  • Collaborate with vendors to bring designs to life.
  • Perform tolerance analyses using statistical techniques.
  • Prepare and present technical concepts to multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Lead teams through the product development cycle from concept to production.
