Job description

The Product Design Engineer role at Apple focuses on the mechanical design of parts, assemblies, and modules for Apple Vision products. This position involves collaboration across multiple disciplines, including Industrial Design and Manufacturing, to ensure the successful development of innovative consumer electronics. The engineer will be responsible for the entire product design cycle, from concept development to testing and production. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and creative problem-solving to enhance product functionality and user experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • 10+ years of hands-on, consumer electronics product design experience
  • Strong mechanical engineering analytical skills with experience in material selection and manufacturing processes
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD, preferably NX
  • Experience in practical application of GD&T techniques and creating 2D drawings
  • Proficiency in tolerance analyses using statistical techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering materials and ability to interpret FEA results
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Masters degree in mechanical engineering or a similar field is preferred
  • Fluent in Unigraphics NX and statistical software like JMP

Responsibilities

  • Take direct responsibility for the mechanical design of parts and assemblies within Apple Vision products.
  • Engage in multi-disciplinary collaboration with teams such as Industrial Design, Project Management, and Manufacturing.
  • Oversee the analysis, assembly, and reliability of mechanical components.
  • Lead teams through the product development cycle from concept to production.
  • Work with external manufacturing vendors to ensure design feasibility and quality.
  • Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigations to solve design challenges.
  • Manage multiple assignments while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Collaborate with Asian manufacturing facilities for high-volume production.
