·FY 2025Job description
The senior AI/ML engineer will work within the Data Science and Visualization team at Apple, focusing on integrating machine learning into machining and prototyping workflows. This role involves collaborating closely with Apple's Advanced Development Lab to enhance manufacturing processes through applied ML. The engineer will be responsible for designing and building ML systems that are reliable and trusted by machinists. The position requires a blend of technical expertise and the ability to communicate effectively with non-ML domain experts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree plus 7 years of experience, Master's degree plus 5 years of experience, or PhD plus 2 years of experience in a relevant analytical field.
- Strong Python skills and fluency with the standard ML stack.
- Full-lifecycle ML experience covering problem framing, data work, training, evaluation, and iteration.
- Hands-on experience designing or extending agentic AI systems.
- Comfort collaborating with non-ML domain experts.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and own ML systems end-to-end for machining and design-for-manufacturing workflows.
- Integrate ML and AI capabilities into manual and routine parts of the manufacturing process.
- Work directly with machinists to understand their constraints and build trusted tools.
- Make architectural decisions about the appropriate ML approaches for given problems.
- Iterate on solutions with tight feedback loops to ensure reliability.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
