Job description

The Systems Development Engineer role within the Unified Workcell Compute team focuses on designing and building systems to manage Amazon's extensive edge device fleet. This hands-on position requires a strong individual contributor who will deliver high-quality technical solutions and contribute to architectural discussions. The team is dedicated to enabling robotics and automation teams to deploy and manage edge compute solutions efficiently. The role involves solving complex technical problems that support Amazon's global robotics and fulfillment operations.

Requirements

  • Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, or Rust
  • Experience with Linux/Unix
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
  • Experience with distributed systems at scale

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain resilient, scalable distributed systems that operate at Amazon scale.
  • Contribute to the technical strategy for your team's systems within the UWC architecture.
  • Participate in architectural reviews and design discussions across UWC and robotics customer teams.
  • Develop automation solutions using Python, Rust, CDK, and AWS services.
  • Implement and optimize Linux-based systems and OS image creation pipelines.
  • Create tooling and frameworks that enable robotics teams to manage their edge compute fleets.
  • Apply established standards for engineering, testing, and operational excellence best practices.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to streamline or eliminate excess processes.
  • Proactively identify and escalate risks at the product and service level.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues across the full stack.
  • Partner with robotics solution teams to translate their device management challenges.
  • Foster the growth of peers on your team through code reviews and knowledge exchange.
  • Deliver solutions that are inventive, resilient, and extensible.
  • Participate in hiring and contribute to technical assessments.
