Job description
Rivian is seeking a highly motivated Process Engineer to optimize manufacturing processes and ensure product quality. This role will bridge the gap between process efficiency and quality assurance, focusing on continuous improvement initiatives. The Process Engineer will support Drive Unit production and report to the Process Engineering Manager. Shift flexibility is required, and the ideal candidate will have a passion for the outdoors and a commitment to sustainability.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering discipline.
- Preferably 1+ years of engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing operation, particularly in automotive or drive unit manufacturing.
- Availability to work 2nd/night shift.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Hands-on experience with supporting production equipment including mechanical, electrical, control systems, automation, and robotics.
- Experience in using 2D & 3D modeling tools such as AutoCAD or CATIA/ENOVIA.
- Knowledge in DOE, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance, Torque Tooling, Error Proofing, and PFMEA.
- Experience or certification in Six Sigma DMAIC, Lean Assembly Principles, and Time Studies using MTM or MODAPTS.
- Working knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook programs.
- Creative problem-solving skills.
- Strong team orientation and cross-functional attitude.
- Experience with Kaizen, 5S, Six Sigma, and Lean Six Sigma is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate engineering changes and new program launches.
- Review, interpret, and summarize statistical data to drive process improvement.
- Determine the best practice process approach for material, tooling, equipment, and labor.
- Develop work instructions, standardized work, process flow, and process documentation.
- Collaborate with the design engineering team to ensure designs support high volume production while maintaining quality.
- Work with the manufacturing engineering team to commission and optimize drive unit assembly equipment.
- Perform time analysis using a standard motion time system and manage staffing requirements.
- Support production teams through troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
- Develop recovery and troubleshooting best practices for production teams.
- Investigate assembly issues and implement solutions by reviewing product design and established processes.
- Monitor Quality KPIs and develop action items to reduce costs with cross-functional teams.
