Job description

The Software Engineer III position in Engineering Productivity at Google Cloud focuses on enhancing developer productivity and optimizing the Spanner release lifecycle. The role involves designing scalable tools and infrastructure that bridge internal developer platforms and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Engineers will work closely with database engineering teams to identify bottlenecks and integrate modern engineering patterns. This position offers opportunities to work on critical projects that drive innovation and improve system reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience building developer tools such as compilers and automated releases.
  • 2 years of experience building and scaling distributed services with a focus on reliability, security, and performance.
  • 2 years of experience in software development, with experience in C++ or Go.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable tools and infrastructure that bridge internal developer platforms and GCP.
  • Drive developer productivity by automating manual workflows and streamlining CI/CD processes.
  • Identify bottlenecks in the development ecosystem and integrate modern engineering patterns/tooling.
  • Partner with Spanner’s core database engine teams to gather requirements and lead the adoption of new EngProd tooling.
  • Focus on delivering measurable improvements in release reliability and system health.
