The Staff Data Scientist role at Google focuses on enhancing personalization and quality within the Discover team. This position involves collaborating cross-functionally to drive Google's mission of organizing information and making it accessible. The role requires a deep understanding of retrieval and ranking systems, leveraging analytics to improve user experience. The candidate will also manage complex data science problems and contribute as both an individual contributor and a technical lead.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- 8 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis, or 6 years of work experience with a PhD degree.
- Familiarity with modern Machine Learning and Large Language Model (LLM) techniques.
- Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with Data Scientists, User Experience Researchers, product, and engineering partners.
Responsibilities
- Lead core understanding of retrieval and ranking ML systems and collaborate with engineers to deliver significant improvements.
- Analyze systems to identify opportunities while maintaining end-to-end ownership of research agenda, execution, and insight delivery to leadership.
- Build expertise in retrieval and ranking systems, advocating for changes and driving cross-functional alignment.
- Manage ambiguous data science problems and leverage new technology to produce significant advancements in understanding.
