The role is for an experienced systems engineer on the Packet Processing team within AWS Global Accelerator, focusing on building and scaling data plane systems with an emphasis on network security and DDoS resilience. The team operates a globally distributed networking service that enhances application performance and availability for customers. Engineers will work on high-performance DDoS mitigation systems and collaborate with various AWS teams to develop coordinated strategies. The position requires a strong background in packet processing and security technologies.

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 5+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language
• 5+ years of experience leading design or architecture of new and existing systems
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team
• 5+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
• Hands-on experience with eBPF/XDP for packet processing or security enforcement
• Experience with DPDK, AF_XDP, or other kernel-bypass frameworks

• Design and build high-performance DDoS mitigation systems operating in the kernel fast-path and userspace data plane
• Develop eBPF/XDP programs for early-stage packet filtering and traffic classification at wire speed
• Extend the DPDK-based packet processor with new mitigation primitives such as SYN proxying and rate shaping
• Analyze attack traffic patterns and translate observations into automated, scalable defenses
• Own the full lifecycle of security-critical infrastructure serving global traffic
• Collaborate with AWS Shield, CloudFront, and networking teams on coordinated mitigation strategies
