Job description
The role involves working with the Geo domain team at Apple to enhance how users navigate and explore their surroundings through Siri and other products. The team focuses on utilizing innovative machine learning techniques and large language models to improve search relevance and retrieval quality. Candidates will have the opportunity to shape upcoming products and collaborate with a diverse group of applied scientists and engineers. The position requires a strong background in applied research, particularly in search and recommendation systems.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in information retrieval, natural language processing, machine learning, or deep learning.
- Master's Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, or a related field, or equivalent research experience demonstrated through publications, patents, or significant open-source contributions.
- Track record of publishing or presenting at top-tier research venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ACL, SIGIR, WWW, or equivalent.
- Experience applying LLMs and generative AI techniques to production search or recommendation systems.
Responsibilities
- Apply advanced machine learning techniques to improve search relevance and retrieval quality at scale.
- Lead experimentation, offline evaluation, and online A/B testing for iterative improvements in search quality.
- Monitor recent research literature and translate findings into practical system improvements.
- Identify high-impact research directions and drive them forward independently.
- Move fluidly from paper to prototype to production in tight iteration cycles while maintaining quality and rigor.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product and design.
