Job description
The Principal Data Engineer role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining database systems to ensure their scalability, reliability, and security. The position focuses on developing applications in a Cloud environment using AWS and optimizing database performance through various techniques. The engineer will also streamline test automation and build reports using advanced BI tools. This role requires collaboration with project managers and other engineers to develop comprehensive solutions for business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field and five years of experience as a Principal Data Engineer in a financial services environment.
- Alternatively, a Master’s degree in a related field and three years of experience as a Principal Data Engineer in a financial services environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in implementing Cloud technologies using Oracle Analytics Cloud and delivering real-time reports.
- Experience in data engineering, migration, and modeling in a Cloud-based data warehouse platform using Snowflake and Python.
- Knowledge of DevOps principles and experience building CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins and GitHub.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and optimize database performance by implementing various database designs and modeling techniques.
- Design and implement database systems to support business requirements.
- Translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex software applications.
- Define and implement application-level architecture.
- Develop comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.
- Establish full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.
- Advise senior management on technical strategy and risk management strategies for projects.
- Mentor junior team members.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with databases and related systems.
- Confers with data processing or project managers to obtain information on limitations or capabilities for data processing projects.
