Job description
This role involves collaborating with vendors and manufacturers to develop and evaluate new Fiber Optic assemblies for AWS global infrastructure. The team focuses on ensuring the highest standards for safety and security while providing efficient connectivity solutions. You will work alongside a diverse group of engineers and specialists to tackle complex challenges in network architecture. The position emphasizes continuous improvement and operational excellence in a dynamic cloud environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- 2+ years of working experience with fiber optic components, cabling, and interconnect products, technologies, and standards
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Experience working with fiber, connector, or other ICT components in a lab or product qualification setting
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with vendors/manufacturers to develop and evaluate new Fiber Optic assemblies and create implementation plans for rack-to-rack connectivity.
- Define and update requirements for structured cabling systems for network layers at hyperscale data centers.
- Develop standards and installation guidelines for physical network/cabling deployments and structured cabling systems.
- Assist with troubleshooting problem areas in existing or new network architecture and propose projects that have significant business impact.
- Partner with fiber vendors and contractors to perform quality control and commissioning of fiber bundles and structured cabling systems.
- Perform mitigation analysis and site inspections to validate as-built conditions and ensure compliance with design requirements.
- Monitor network/system/link quality and build mechanisms to remediate large scale events.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to fiber connectivity and fiber plant design.
- Maintain documentation, drawings, and asset records for physical fiber network components across global sites.
