Job description

The Sr. Electrical Test Engineer at Rivian will focus on developing and supporting end-of-line test processes and equipment for the Battery team. This role requires collaboration with various team members, including Process Engineers and management, to ensure the success of next-generation vehicles. The position is based in Normal, IL, and involves working the 2nd/night shift. The engineer will play a crucial role in optimizing testing procedures and addressing electrical issues.

Requirements

  • Ability to work 2nd/night shift
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • 4-year technical degree in electrical engineering, computer science, mechatronics, or an equivalent field
  • 2 years of experience working with electrical test systems in a related field, preferably automotive
  • Experience with testing EV battery systems is preferred
  • Knowledge of statistical tools, DOEs, and Minitab is preferred
  • Experience or certification in Six Sigma DMAIC and Lean Assembly Principles is optional
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook programs
  • Creative problem-solving skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong team orientation and cross-functional attitude
  • High energy and self-motivated
  • Knowledge of lab instruments such as DMM, Oscilloscope, debugger, and HIL operation is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support test equipment development, commissioning, qualification, and integration in the Normal manufacturing battery area
  • Develop production level test procedures in collaboration with manufacturing engineering and product engineering
  • Coordinate and track the launch of new programs/products and update end-of-line testing accordingly
  • Review, interpret, and summarize end-of-line statistical data to drive continuous improvement
  • Determine the best practice process approach for all electrical test systems
  • Identify and implement solutions for issues relating to safety, quality, productivity, and cost reductions
  • Develop work instructions, standardized work, process flow, and process documentation to ensure testing processes are repeatable and efficient
  • Participate in product reviews to evaluate process impact and provide feedback on test sequence, equipment capability, and investment requirements
  • Optimize test procedures within available system cycle time
  • Investigate electrical issues and failure modes identified at end-of-line and implement containment solutions
  • Apply technical root cause analysis and resolution of issues found during testing to guide repair technicians and develop best practice rework procedures
  • Support hardware integration related to interfacing hardware and connection issues
