The Principal Substation Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting utility and developer clients by delivering substation design deliverables for utility upgrades. This position is part of Jacobs' Energy & Power Group, focusing on the complexities of decarbonization and utility modernization. The engineer will work closely with regional and global teams, mentoring junior staff and ensuring high-quality project delivery. This role requires strong technical knowledge in substation design and the ability to interface directly with clients.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Power Engineering or related engineering discipline
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) within the United States
- Minimum 12 years of direct Substation design experience with utility or consulting organization
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of High Voltage substation components
- Prior experience in development of substation designs from conceptual through the development of IFC drawings
- Familiarity with grounding system design and lighting and lightning protection designs for substation
- Ability to perform substation AC/DC Station Service calculations and studies
- Strong communication and technical writing skills
Responsibilities
- Interface directly with utility and developer clients on substation design deliverables
- Provide engineering overview, expertise, and direction as an independent technical advisor
- Mentor team members across North America and globally
- Support the sales and proposal preparation process for new contracts
- Perform project scoping, prepare task orders, and conduct design reviews of work by others
- Conduct field visits and walk-downs as required for client projects
- Ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery of substation design projects
