In this role, you will work on maintaining one of the largest Apache Kafka fleets at Amazon MSK, focusing on automation to ensure the infrastructure remains healthy and secure. The team is dedicated to building systems that handle operational challenges autonomously, allowing customers to rely on the service without worrying about underlying infrastructure. You will collaborate with engineers to enhance the reliability of streaming applications and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of significant problems from design through operation.

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience with design patterns, reliability, and scaling
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language
• 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

• Design, build, and operate automation that patches and maintains hundreds of thousands of stateful hosts.
• Build systems that automatically detect unhealthy hosts and remediate them.
• Develop rollout and rollback mechanisms to keep the blast radius of any change small at fleet scale.
• Own your services end to end, participating in on-call duties and debugging production issues.
• Write design documents and collaborate with engineers across MSK to raise the engineering bar.
