Job description

The Staff Powertrain NVH Engineer at Rivian is a key member of the NVH Attributes team, focusing on the refinement of noise and vibration in electric powertrains. This role involves leading NVH development for various powertrain components, including electric motors and gearboxes. The engineer will work closely with design, manufacturing, and vehicle integration teams to enhance sound quality and customer experience. A hands-on approach is essential, as the position requires physical engagement in testing and diagnostics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with an advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in powertrain NVH for Staff level or 12+ years for Senior Staff level.
  • Strong hands-on background in NVH testing, including sound power, TPA, FRFs, and modal analysis.
  • Deep understanding of electric motor NVH, including PMSM and induction motor architectures.
  • Proficiency with modern NVH tools and data analysis environments, including Testlab, Artemis, MATLAB, and Python.

Responsibilities

  • Lead powertrain NVH development across electric drive units, including electric motors and gearboxes.
  • Plan and execute component, subsystem, and vehicle-level NVH testing in laboratory and on-road environments.
  • Perform sound power measurements to support target setting and design validation.
  • Analyze and influence electric motor NVH, including torque ripple and rotor-stator interactions.
  • Translate complex NVH data into clear technical reports and recommendations for stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Employees at Rivian are often offered comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) with company match, ESPP and potential RSU grants, performance bonuses, and generous time off including paid parental and sick leave.
